For this project, we had to free draw two positions of our hands and use the different water color techniques (salt technique, variegated wash, graded wash, wet to wet technique, flat wash, dry brush technique, crayon resist technique, and masking tape technique).
Poem
For this assignment, we had to write a poem on "The True New York." We had to pick a specific place in NY and write a poem about it. When we chose our place, we had to physically go there and write every single little detail of what you see, hear, smell, touch, and taste. This was to get a really good image in the readers mind and make the reader feel like they are actually there.
Reproduction Test

This test was taken at the end of our unit, the reproduction system. We all had to study the female and male reproduction system and then be tested on it and show our knowledge about biology.
Year End Reflection
One of the pieces I chose for my portfolio was my reproduction test from living environment. I chose this piece because I got a really good grade and I studied so hard for it. Also, I’m not a great test taker. I felt so confident about taking this test and I really knew the material. Some of my strengths for this piece of work is that the diagrams really helped me understand the question easily and what really helped me understand the question was breaking it down. I picked out specific vocabulary that I knew and underlined the main points. Some of my weaknesses were that when I didn’t understand a question, and I knew I knew it, but I would make a stupid mistake because I wasn’t familiar with the vocabulary that they used. The wording was just too hard for me. My goal for future tests are that to make sure I just study and study certain vocabulary that I know will be on the regents. I think this piece really makes my portfolio because it shows when I put all my effort into something I get great results. But it also shows when I’m interested in a topic, I do very well.
Another piece I chose for my portfolio is my watercolor hand free draw. I chose this piece because I actually thought this was the best artwork I have done in media all year. To be honest, I’m very bad at art so I was surprised at how this piece came out. For this project we had to do a couple sketches of our hand in two different positions WITHOUT looking at the paper. This part was very difficult but it turned out to be a really cool design. While we were doing that, we were also learning about the different techniques of watercolor (salt technique, varigated wash, graded wash, wet to wet, flat wash, dry brush, crayon resist, and masking tape technique). Now, before I didn’t even know watercolors even had techniques. So for this project, we had to use the different skills and use it in our hand free draw. We could either do a primary color scheme, monochromatic color scheme, secondary color scheme, analogous color scheme, or complimentary color scheme. We had a variety of things to do but we just had to include the techniques of watercolor. I think my strengths for this piece was picking a simple color scheme but using the skills of watercolor in a unique way. My weaknesses were really trying to figure out what watercolor techniques I was going to do and where I was going to put them. This project took some time because whatever you did in class, it would have to dry and then the same thing would happen the next day. I really hope we get to do something like this next year because it’s very special on how we have the freedom to create our own design and use different skills to create them.
The third piece I chose for my portfolio is my poem from my writing project called “The True New York.” I wrote my poem about Absolute Bagels. I chose this piece because I think it was one of my best things I have ever written from any other writing I have done. I was always interested in writing. That’s why I chose this school. My strengths for this piece was I think getting all the small details for my poem. My weaknesses were also gathering details but how to really lay them out. I needed to know why this place was the true New York and that is what I struggled with. What I could have improved on is maybe adding more detail to make it sound very specific. I think this piece really shows the potential I have for writing and shows the detail I can include in a story.

Overall, these three pieces show my accomplishments during freshman year that I’m very proud of.
