A piece I chose to put in my E-portfolio is my Heart of Darkness Essay for humanities. Now this is one essay I’m super proud of. This essay was for our Africa unit that we spent weeks and weeks on. For this unit, we had to read the book Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. As our teachers gave us our unit project, they gave us four driving questions. We could choose anyone we wanted. My question was “How did Joseph Conrad’s descriptions of the Africans, portray the actions of the Europeans?” I was very productive during this unit essay. In class, I tried to see what I could improve and see how my ideas could come together. To get some help, I made a plan with my teacher to come after school and mornings on specific days so it would fit both our schedules. Coming in after school and in the morning, was the best thing I’ve could’ve done to get an intergrating grade on this essay. My teacher helped me so much through this process. She helped me with transition words, vocabulary, and helping me organize my ideas. When I got back my rubric, I saw mostly intergrating grades which I was striving for. Personally, I’m not that great at writing essays- especially in humanities. I think this Heart of Darkness Essay has to be one of the best essays I’ve written.
Plaster Sculpture
A second piece I chose to put in my portfolio is my plaster sculpture I made in Media this year. I’m very pleased with this piece of art I made because this was such a long process to make and I think it turned out pretty well. To actually make this sculpture, we needed plaster and water. Our goal for this sculpture was that it had to be non-objective. The first week of the process, we made our plaster and started to give it a shape as it dried. After that, we carved our sculptures with forkes, knives, and spoons for the next few weeks to make it more of a non-objective shape. Once our sculpture was finished, we needed to sand it with sand paper to make it smooth. The last few weeks, we had to make a base for the sculpture to sit in. It was the same process as making the plaster. We just needed it to be in a cardboard container to get that square shape. Even though all that carving and sanding was pretty annoying, the results were pretty good. Media is a hard class. Especially for people who are not artistic. But I think it doesn’t matter if you’re artistic or not, everything always comes out looking good in media.
A third piece I chose to pick for my E-portfolio was my chemistry midterm because I got a very good grade on it, which was an 85. When I saw I got an 85, I wasn’t exactly shocked because I felt like I did really well. But, it was a MIDTERM. It was an exam to see how well we knew the material from September to the middle of the year. I studied very hard for this test. Chemistry is a hard subject. Not that many people can comprehend it. So, this piece made me feel accomplished on learning a new subject. Chemistry has to deal with a lot of math which I’m not that good at. Surprisingly though, I love chemistry. I’m so glad I put in the effort I did for this test. The outcome was amazing and I will always be proud of this test.
